39. Summer Or Winter? Summer! No school, generally more time with friends with this summer being a major exception, WARMTH, etc...only drawback is the lack of snow. They need to invent a way to make it snow when it’s warm out...like enough to sled on without it melting.

Today was the first day of band camp. It wasn’t as bad as I expected. Every year I hear stories about kids passing out left and right, but this year they moved it to 4-8 instead of 9-1 so that cut out some major heat. Oh this is just freshmen camp by the way. And yes, I am officially a “freshman” when it comes to marching band lol since this is my first year. Anyway, no one passed out so that was good haha. I didn’t have too much trouble with stuff...I mean, I’m definitly not a great marcher or anything, but since I’m in pit, it doesn’t matter nearly as much as it does for people that will march in the show. I was proud of being a somewhat decent judge of distance since I’m usually really bad at that kind of stuff. Honestly the hardest part of the day was probably all those arm circles haha-that should’ve been my story for lack of strength on that survey. How pathetic. Oh well lol. There were some people that were really annoying though...Like this one kid in my group...omgsh...He won’t do ANYTHING you tell him to. We had to sing a song and act it out as a warm up-he just stood there. We did arm circles-he streatched instead. We were supposed to walk 8 steps between the yardlines in time with Mr. Rowe calling out the numbers-by the time Mr. Rowe called out “three,” this kid was done with all 8 of his steps. On purpose. And yet no one said anything to him. I was kind of annoyed about that-the section leaders and other helper people went around to make sure we were all doing things correctly, which is a good thing, but I guess no one saw him or felt like dealing with him or something. The one time someone did, he was only doing something minor-his feet were too far apart-and so someone asked him to put them together. He just stared at her. She was like “...like, actually move them. Together.” He stared at her again. Finally she somehow talked him into moving his feet. It was rediculous. He’s not even a freshman-I think he’s a senior! but not positive on that. Still. Grr. I’m not thrilled with the idea of having him in my section. On the positive side, Allison decided to do pit afterall! Yaaaaaaay I know someone decently well in my section now and she’s really nice! We need nicknames to tell her apart from the other pit Allison though lol-Someone came up with one at auditions that she didn’t like much...something like “little Megan” or something (she’s last year’s drum major’s little sister), I forget exactly. Hmm.
Oh I forgot to say this before. At the beginning of the day we had to go around and say what instrument, part of an instrument, or anything else music related that we would be and why. Lol ASP all over again, though then it was fruits. Anyway, the responses were interesting-everything from “I would be a spit swab because I like to keep things neat” to “I would be a flute because they’re always late” (from Melissa’s brother...I told him he was lucky to be alive haha) and like a zillion people just said their instrument “because it’s cool/the best/awesome/godly” so eventually they ruled that out as a reason. I was a baton because I like to be in control. Mr. Rowe didn’t seem to grasp the concept though hahaha...he tried to help one girl out when she got stuck by telling her she should be a shovel so she can burry the competition. Umm okay but I’ve never seen a shovel out on the practice field. Then we asked him what he would be...and he said “I’d be back in high school so I can march the show one more time,” which was sweet but still didn’t fit the game lol. Oh well.
